Sudents in 7th grade science are using Jolly Ranchers to understand the rock cycle. Students started them as whole rock. They crushed them, representing weathering and erosion. They then put them in a cup with another cup on top and squised them with a large textbook for a week. This represented compaction, when the took them out it was a solid chunck, sedimentary rock. I asked them how can we make igneous rock from this...and they were able to figure it out!
