Last math post for the month of Sept:
This year we were able to offer a new elective math class called Applied Math.
We have started by using the fundamentals of high school math and reviewing many applications that will be needed for the Applied Math Curriculum.
Students will get to see the real world applications of what they learn in math class by utilizing Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 in:
- Taxes- Fundamentals of Algebra
- Checking Accounts-Linear Equations
- Savings Accounts- Systems of Equations
- Budgeting- Systems of Inequalities
- Introduction to Investments- Exponential Equations
- Types of Credit- Modeling Functions
- Managing Credit- Statistics
- Paying for College- Statistical Analysis
- Insurance- Probability.
We will be using a variety of project based, group and singular, and paper assignments that allow students to connect the classroom to their current and future lives outside of the classroom. Arming them with the knowledge of how and why things work the way that they do before they head into life after high school.

Shoe Drive @ Sargent Public Schools: Sargent Public School is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser during our VB triangular with Twin Loup/South Loup on Thursday, Oct 3. September Spotlight: Music Department
The Junior High Choir had their first performance of the National Anthem last night for the football game. We are very proud of these great singers. They did a great job!
Last week we shared a quiz on the Anthem. Here are the answers so you can “check your work”.
1. What is the title of the Anthem? The Star Spangled Banner
2. Who wrote the words to the Anthem? Francis Scott Key (it was first a poem of 7 verses.)
3. What war was going on when the Anthem was written, and which country were we fighting? War of 1812 against England
4. What American fort was being attacked when the Anthem was written? Fort McHenry near Baltimore, Maryland.
5. What year did the Anthem officially become our National Anthem? 1931, signed into law by President Hoover.

We have one last RARE award before the weekend. This young lady earned her award for staying focused and on task in class. She is very accountable.

This is our first RARE 5th grade student of the year! Her teacher says she has all the RARE qualities. She takes pride in her school work and is prepared and ready to learn every day. Keep up the great work!

RARE award earners come in all grades and sizes. They can earn the RARE award from Kinder to 6th grade. Yesterday we had two RARE students that earned RARE certificates. One certificate was for Accountability because she completes her reading log and does her work in class. The other student was very responsible and earned his award for doing his best in everything he does.
