Hello SVM Community,
The purpose of this communication is to highlight a point of emphasis for the 2024-2025 year and beyond. We are greatly appreciative of all parents and supporters who come to watch our athletes play at both home and away contests.
One of the items lacking in our Athletic/Activities Handbook is expectations of conduct for spectators at events that SVM athletes compete in.
What follows will be the guidelines for attendees to all Sandhills Valley Mavericks contests both home and away. These guidelines were created by the NSAA (Nebraska State Activities Association) and slightly modified to be aligned with the administration and cooperative boards of education expectations. Everything you see below has been voted on and approved by both boards of education at Stapleton Public Schools and McPherson County Schools.
Parent/Fan Code of Conduct for NSAA/SVM Sponsored Events: (Page 7 of SVM Handbook)
When attending SVM/NSAA sponsored events as a spectator:
Attendees will be a positive role model for all children and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.
Attendees will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing, taunting or using profane language or gestures, etc.
Attendees will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.
Attendees will teach their child to play by the spirit of the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
Attendees will demand that all children treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, sex, or ability.
Attendees will never ridicule or yell at a child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition.
Attendees will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches or referees while in performance of their duties, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.
Attendees will refrain from coaching their child or other players during games and practices, unless they are one of the official coaches of the team.
Attendees will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of their child or the safety of others.
Attendees who fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines will be subject to disciplinary action that may include, but is not limited to the following:
Verbal warning by official, head coach, and/or member of league organization
Written warning
Single game suspension with written documentation of incident
Season suspension
I will be available in person to answer any questions during the Fall Sports Parents meeting on Friday, August 23, 2024 or you can call/email me to discuss these guidelines further if necessary. Thank you.
