Although the students and most of the staff are enjoying their summer vacations, the school office is busily preparing the new year approaching. An important part of getting ready for the next year is the final formation of the school budget. Due to increased costs and some loss in state and federal funding our school district is facing an increase in the tax levy for 2024-25. Our board of education will be discussing the details of next year’s budget beginning with our June meeting, with discussions at the July and August meetings as well. I encourage you to talk with your school board members or make an appointment with me at the school if you have any questions. I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you and answer any questions you may have.
Also, this month I’d like to highlight some of improvements our student body has made this year. Overall, the elementary has progressed in both Math and Reading, although we are planning to add more teacher support for Math in 2024-25, as well as an improved Reading curriculum and more time for reading instruction with some classes. In the secondary school we remain focused on improving reading across the board, however our students are excelling a great deal in Science, and our Math has also shown significant improvement.
If you see our student athletes out and about, tell them to keep up the good work. Our attendance at strength and conditioning has been excellent, and we expect to be bigger, faster, and stronger next year.
Finally, another Thank You to the School Foundation and its many benefactors for the success of the Foundation Banquet. I can assure them all that their hard work and the grants awarded to our faculty and school have been very appreciated and go a long way to adding that something special that boosts the morale of students and staff, as well as enhancing teaching and learning opportunities. It was well attended and a lot of fun! I look forward to its growth and integration into other area events on the Memorial Day Weekend.
