Changes

Good morning,

At the recent monthly school board meeting on Monday evening June 10th, 2024 a proposal was made to and approved by the school board to change dates on the school academic calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. We wanted to let you know of those changes and why they were proposed.

Teachers report to school - Friday, Aug 9th, 2024

Students report to school - Wednesday, Aug 14th, 2024

These dates were changed to ensure compliance with academic minutes required by the state of Nebraska as well as to ensure teachers complete the required number of days as stated in their negotiated agreement.

In-service moved from Monday, April 7th, 2025 to Friday, April 11th, 2025

This date change was moved from the original date of Monday, April 7th, 2025 because we will be administering sections of mandated state testing for most grade levels on Tuesday, April 8th (NSCAS and ACT). We always want to ensure our students are set up for success. We do not want students coming back from a three day weekend and asking them to test without being adequately prepared.

Final day of school for all students: - Thursday, May 15th, 2025

It was our goal to end the school year on the same day for all students to allow families to begin summer vacation at the same time regardless of grade level.

Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2025: Moved to Saturday, May 17th, 2025.

The reason for this change was proposed due to the plethora of events held in the month of May. Currently, the month of May (and last few days of April) has Stapleton Public Schools hosting the following events: MNAC Conference Golf, two evening band concerts, three evening banquets (academic, FFA and athletic), the annual Dave Blevins Track Meet, the elementary field day and of course, graduation. In addition to many other athletic events in both track and golf for both junior high and high school athletes as those seasons wind down. Some of the dates for athletic events are set by the state, and thus we have no control over when these take place.

We recognize the importance of all of these events for students, parents, family members, and those in the community. It is our mission to ensure each of these events are conducted with care and in a first-class manner. It is nearly impossible to give them the consideration and attention they deserve without proper time and planning. Therefore, these changes were proposed and approved on the merits that they deserve the very best we can give them.

We understand that these changes can cause frustration and this is why we felt it was necessary to explain the thinking and reasoning behind proposing these changes.

If you have further questions please contact Mr. Johnson or Mr. Redinger at the school via phone or email. Thank you for your time, consideration and patience as we continuously work towards providing a valuable and memorable experience to all members associated with Stapleton Public Schools.

Respectfully,

Mr. Johnson
