Eighth-grader Avery Weems took home first overall during the Junior High Girls portion of the Cross Country meet at the Oregon Trail Golf Course this past Saturday in Sutherland.
Weems finished the 3K course in a time of 12:40 - twenty seconds ahead of the second place finisher from North Platte.
Even more impressive than running faster than 26 other Junior High Girl participants was the fact that Weems defeated 18 other Junior High Boys in the process. Weems finished 17th overall out of a combined total of over 60 middle school boys and girls.
